              The medical coding specialist will assess medical records and charge tickets to make sure they are accurate, complete, and in compliance with the American Medical Association's Current Procedural Terminology Manual and the International Classification of Diseases Manual - Clinical Modification (ICD-9-CM) (CPT). The Expert will also instruct doctors and personnel in medical coding technical matters.

  • Examines charge-ticket coding, diagnostic and procedural codes, and other paperwork to ensure that it appropriately reflects and supports outpatient visits and that it complies with legal requirements and rules in order to optimise reimbursement.
  • Interprets medical data, including descriptions of diseases, symptoms, and diagnostic techniques to correctly assign and order the appropriate ICD-9-CM and CPT codes.
  • To reduce claim denial, examines state and federal Medicare reimbursement claims for correctness and completeness before submission.
  • Evaluates records and creates reports on difficulties with coding, paperwork, or the amount of refused claims for management and/or professional assessment committees to review.
  • Makes suggestions for modifications to rules and practises; collaborates with data processing personnel to update the computer master file.
